  • I’d be so lost without Brightside!

Literally. I was at a dead end with a local psychiatrist and getting into a new one was going to take over a month. I stumbled onto this platform and can’t be thankful enough. My doctor is incredible. A true advocate for me and a balanced approach. I had one interaction with their customer service team and that was the best experience I’ve had in that realm. Just all around amazing. If you’re thinking about it - go ahead and do it!

  • Misleading

I met with someone I could barely understand who only after I was in this session told me this company cannot prescribe controlled medication commonly used for psychiatric care.

Instead I was given a prescription for something I have never used before and when I explained I would not be able to quit my other medication cold turkey, and I cannot take these two together due to contraindications, their reaction was uncaring, unconcerned, and their time was up. I have since been receiving auto-generated requests to check in. I have had to go back to my previous doctor who was kind enough to develop a two month plan to help wean me off my current medication responsibly and safely.

If you cannot prescribe the full range of medications used by patients seeking help it should be noted up front before anyone signs up for your treatment.

    Developer Response

We'd like to deeply apologize for the subpar experience you had with your assigned provider. That's not at all the standard that we aim to meet. It's important to note that Brightside does not prescribe controlled substances, outlined here on our website: https://www.brightside.com/faqs/what-medications-do-we-prescribe/. The common medications we do prescribe are listed on our medications page here (https://www.brightside.com/our-medications). Please feel free to directly call us at 415-360-3348 so we can look into your account.
  • Awful & Waste of Money

Originally signed up for therapy, then decided to add psychiatry in order to get a second opinion. Somehow there system made my therapy appointment disappear and they have no record of it. Yet, I have the appointment confirmation emails. Then I finally see the psychiatrist for the first time and she was rude and not helpful and informed me that she’s not there for second opinions and ended the call. Now, I try to reach out to customer service in order to cancel and get a refund but they won’t contact me back.

    -10/10 can’t recommend.

The app can be glitchy but my doctor is great! I’ve seen a lot of psychiatric practitioners/doctors and even tried other mental health apps. The doctor I was provided is wonderful. She listens to me and even offers new changes to my medication. All of 3 of my meds are under $15. If you have issues with the app just go on the website and works much better. I feel this app/website could go the distance if they keep good providers. Keep it all about the quality of service, no frills. I don’t have insurance right now but my past community mental health appts, with great health insurance, were still $75 a session. Everyone’s experience is different but you should definitely give it a try.

  • Worst experience. It’s a SCAM.

Please save your money. If you’re here you’re already going through a rough time so please save your money this is a scam. Your provider will be late and from what I saw from other reviews they will also cancel your appointments. My provider did no respond to my messages and she did not order my prescription. I had no way of contacting her either. Her name is Laura Hendricks. Please go elsewhere. I had this app back in 2021 and it was great but not anymore. Very unprofessional and you’ll just waste money.

  • The app is confusing and not friendly

After completing everything and paid. I wanted to change doctors. 1 the app homepage keeps freezing even though I logged off and logged back again. 2- it doesn’t not give me the option to change doctors or see what works best for me. There’s not live chat or phone number to call in order to solve the issues.

  • Insurance misinfo/ no real care

Brightside approved my insurance and said nothing would have to be paid ensuring me multiple times everything is covered. 3 months later I’m hit with a bill for a therapy appointment that lasted less than the allotted time, and was immediately canceled after the experience with the therapist. She didn’t listen or bother to ask me anything about myself and instead tried to give me unrelated solutions without even knowing any problem- as if it was all scripted. Disappointed is an understatement, especially when people come here at there lowest points unable to get appointments elsewhere.

  • Provider Review

Working with Latonia Mitchell was such a gift. During a really challenging season of my life she encouraged me, validated my experience, and supported me through starting medication for the first time. After our sessions I always felt like she really understood what I was going through and reminded me of what I was capable of; that I could get through this time. After several months with Brightside I can share that my anxiety and depression are significantly less and I’m able to begin to transition off of medication and Latonia was a huge part of this. I’m very grateful to her for the care I received.

  • Attention smokers

I was told this directly by a Brightside employee during an appointment. Basically if you smoke marijuana frequently they will not prescribe you medication which completely nullifies the place. Because that’s what some people need because their insurance is bad and slow and they don’t want to mentally deteriorate. But they will still gladly take your $99 dollars. (Personally Every doctor I’ve ever met has not refused service over weed use)

  • So far I feel like I’m being robbed

I paid for my consultation, and five minutes before my meeting I logged on to see that the application says I need to “Complete my intake” which means they want me to pay for a second time.

I have my receipt from my first purchase, and in the past week after been in a carousel of emails with no help, and what is worse, there is no way for me to cancel my subscription through the app.

So. Email with no helpful answer. They provide a number but their automated system actually hangs up on you while you are waiting (three times). And no way to cancel your subscription or get to where you gave Brightside your card information.

I would give zero stars. Currently wondering if I need to call my bank to have my card number changed.
