  • This s the best journal and CBT App I’ve used yet

I’m getting ready to start therapy and I’ve been through a lot of stuff recently. I’ve been doing the prompts in this app to help pinpoint what my problems are and what I really need to work on and counseling. And you can export your journal entries and give them to your counselor if you want to. I think it’s a great way to journal and be able to keep your thoughts on your passcode phone so wherever you are you can journal if you need to as a coping skill. I love the prompts and the guidance. I feel like CVT therapy is going to be really helpful and productive for me this app has really helped me gather my thoughts and get my feelings down.

  • Not free - $70/year

This app is wonderful for people who struggle to keep up with journaling on their own. My mind races and then I get tired and it goes blank. The last thing I want to do is expend more energy trying to sort through those thoughts. So it really helps to have this app asking me questions and pulling it out of me, so to speak. It’s a great, in-depth app and worth the money, but it feels very bait and switch when you download something thinking it’s free but then there’s no free version and it’s $70 per year. I get that you want people to try it and do the week trial period, but there should at least be a free version. Even just the mood tracking and free-journaling part.

  • Super Helpful, but

I’ve been using Thought Diary for a bit now and I really like it. It’s not just pouring your thoughts and feelings on a page, which isn’t always helpful. It has activities and steps to do throughout the journaling. A check in, an activity of your choice, crash course, and daily reflection. There are (not diagnostic) tests of things like OCD, depression, anxiety, anger, etcetera. There are a lot of good things about Thought Diary, but there are some cons to the program. All of the super helpful features are locked behind a paywall. There is a free version but it is very restrictive. A wide percentage of the lessons and courses are very text heavy which can leave you with little motivation to actually complete the activity. One other downside is that you must journal for a minimum of four days to access insights. Overall Thought Diary might be helpful to some people, but it definitely not for everyone.

  • Incredibly helpful

I started journaling again because I hit a rough patch in my personal and professional life. I didn’t have the money to start therapy again and thought a guided journaling app would be a good tool to get started! And after two and a half months I’ve seen a HUGE improvement. Even just looking at the monthly breakdowns I saw that April was bad but I didn’t mark a single bad day in May or so far in June! I absolutely recommend this for someone needing gentle guided journaling to get their thoughts or emotions in order!

  • WHAT AN APP!!

I’m only using the free version and holy crap it has been helping me to emotionally navigate one of the most emotionally turbulent things I have had to go through in recent memory. I genuinely don’t know where I would be right now without it!
If you’re struggling please consider this app! The emotional tracking helps me to distinguish my good from bad days and the journal helps me to work through my problems to understand how I’m really feeling.
BUT THE ANALYZE THOUGHTS FEATURE IS THE GREATEST TOOL! I didn’t know a lot about CBT before this app but being guided through identifying what my negative thought is, labeling the cognitive distortion, and being led through how to look at it differently without making me feel bad about the thought has been life changing. It’s both validating while still encouraging growth.
I am on a 13 day streak and I. LOVE. THIS. APP.

  • such a lifeline of an app and FREE!

i really wanted to access good CBT and while i was searching for my therapist, this app gave me an opportunity to journal and reflect on the thoughts going through my head. now that i’ve found my therapist, i even use this to write my reflections on the bus ride home. i’ve recommended it to so many friends who have found solace in checking in with their current mood, analyzing their thought patterns, and practicing gratitude. i am so grateful that the foundation of the app is free, and i’m considering purchasing at some point given its affordability and utility! thank you, thought diary!

  • Subscription based waste

I tried using the app and can’t do anything till I agree to pay money even to start the free trial.
The setup starts with having you answer questions about yourself. It then goes on to tell you how messed up you are and how much u need the program they have made for you but you can only use the interface once you agree to the 89.99$ for they year which is in USD so as someone that is potentially a Canadian user this is very deceptive on the price point because it becomes higher.

Please use our free version! You can create unlimited entries and access the core CBT content without even signing up for the trial.
  • Be Very Careful!

Like so many apps today, there’s a free trial before a subscription model kicks in. I downloaded and checked out this app; it was… ok but nothing great, and I actually moved on to something much much better. Forgot the automatic subscription of course, and now I’m nearly $100 lighter. Apps that have free trials should have a point where the potential buyer should get asked if they want to proceed with the purchase. Mediocre apps like this one succeed because Apple allows them to auto subscribe. I wouldn’t really bother with the app; it is trite and a little condescending TBH.

Oh no, sorry to hear about that! You can get a refund through the app store if you'd like.
  • Improved mental health in a week!

I downloaded this app because I felt my mental health had taken a turn for the worst after my third miscarriage. I was depressed, anxious and could not get a grip on my feelings. I would have never though a daily journal would help me so much as well as the tips that go along with it. This app has helped me feel so much more at ease and it allows you to write out your feelings and problem solve on how to minimize or diminish those problems. Absolutely love this app and would recommend it to anyone!

  • Life changing

I am a psychologist and I have been in therapy on and off for a lot of years. I was having trouble finding a therapist that did anything but psychotherapy. While that was beneficial in the beginning of dealing with my ptsd it became harmful later because I was just repeating the same stories , both literally and figuratively, and not moving forward. It was keeping me stuck. I needed a tangible way to change unhealthy thought patterns and not just reinforce them by talking about them. This app has helped me more than the last decade of therapy has. Not only does it help me change my thought pattern and habits it allows me to do it in the moment when it’s happening. Not after the fact and the damage is done. I know this sounds dramatic but it really has made a profound difference in my ability to change course and deal with stress and unhealthy thought patterns and helps me avoid those thought rabit holes all together. I am grateful for this app and am hopeful more people find it and get themselves out of negative and unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. It is a game changer for sure.
