  • Glitchy

I have participated in several studies. Over the last few months the app started not letting me log in and just returning to the mobile number page. Of course if you enter a number there it will say the number is already taken. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling however that was unsuccessful. So basically the app is useless at this point until they work out the bugs

  • Battery hogging spy

This app was running 21 hours in the background, showed up just behind Safari and Facebook in usage and had consumed 11% of my battery’s charge.

Something hinky is going on and I’ve lost all trust in these people. I asked for my data to be deleted and my account closed. It’s been a couple days and they still haven’t responding.

I’m deleting this app and advising my friends to do the same.

  • Eats your battery

I wanted to be a part of this study, but this application runs in the background all the time and runs your battery down FAST. I have other apps that do reminders and track locations, use Bluetooth, even, that use MUCH less power than this app. It’s always at the top of the list of power consumers on my phone. Sorry, no. Goodbye.

  • Too many negative reviews

Signed up. Then, they didn’t send a link for the app, so an email was sent requesting help. After a link was sent, downloaded the app - I should have read the reviews first. After reading the reviews, I deleted the app.

Be The Match was the group that sent the invitation. But one of there employees had posted some very negative/unprofessional comments on one of my websites - they didn’t know that their IP address was recorded with their comment. So I had to deal with that.

In addition, I had a very negative experience when BTM called/emailed me about being a potential match. So those two incidents just didn’t help.

Not sure why BTM contacted me about this project but after seeing the reviews, I just don’t have a good feeling.

I need a app that was made by a pro, not by a student working on their degree.

There are far too many negative reviews for the app. It uses too much battery power.

I would love to help and have even volunteered for the stage 3 vaccine trials. I even tried to volunteer for the BTM program.

It just seems like these groups and their programs/research are poorly run. (My spouse is a scientist and I have been in several different labs that are professionally run.)

I can not run the risk of having a problem app, that also doesn’t respect privacy, on my phone!

I have deleted the app and am withdrawing from this poorly run program!

  • I really wanted it to succeed

I think democratizing health research like this is a good thing, but this app is just a mess. They went out of their way to build custom UI components that work worse than the default UIKit ones.

And to top that off, today I got locked out of the app because they had detected my phone as jailbroken... except it’s not. So now I can’t even use it anymore.

  • Telling me my phone jailbroken

Won’t open now claiming phone is jail broken. It isn’t. Shame as I want to contribute in any small way possible
  • Drains phone battery

As others have mentioned, this app tracks your location frequently, even when the app is closed. I understand that this has research value, but the constant location tracking seems to rapidly drain my phone battery.
  • Stop tracking me after I send in my report!

Please fix as after I submit my daily report your app is still tracking me. I have to force close it now when done.
  • Great Idea

At this point, I’m of the mind that anything we can do, we should ! So, I think this is a great contribution & it takes very little time to complete the surveys.
  • UCSF 👍

I participated in another study using the Apple Watch and believe the data gathered would have been impossible to collect without this technology. If answering questions can help researchers get a handle on Covid-19 I am happy to participate. Easy peasy.
