Reviews of DBT Coach

  • Excellent foundation app for DBT self study.

Once basic concepts are learned this app is very helpful to the degree it is implemented by practice. The potential exists to expand it to collaboration with a qualified therapist or to add additional features by way of the in app purchasing. To date I have not felt that the free elements have been implemented up to a level that I feel I am in need of the expanded app. The app is extremely useful and very well designed to optimize individual progress for committed students and self help aspirants. Caution ⚠️ is necessary for urgent situations where professional counseling and therapy are indicated, and self help is not by itself appropriate. Even more caution is needed in such cases to diligently identify a therapist who is not only licensed, but fully skilled in the many key facets of mental health relationships.
  • Critique Review

I have been using this app since 2021. Granted it is the free version. Maybe I should pay for the app and then it would be 5 stars. My main complaint, again free version user here, is I cannot edit or add my own tabs for, “Thoughts//Urges, Emotions/Feelings, Actions/Behaviors or Activities.” It would be nice if I could add a few of my own selections and I would feel much more personal using this app. Because I can’t do that I now skip the sections listed above and do not journal because I can’t track everything accurately. I used to do it all but not so much anymore. I need to be better at that. Everything else that is locked doesn’t bother me. But, what I listed above does bother me. That’s all. Besides that it is a 5 star app. But it is getting a 4 star review. I definitely recommend this app otherwise.
  • Genuinely necessary for my DBT journey

I love the DBT process and find it to be perfectly suited for how I view the world and the skills I KNOW I need to improve. That said, I have a huge workbook/binder to work through for all my DBT dairies and skills tracking. Using a physical medium is never my first choice, so I rarely if ever get around to logging things at all, or at least in the moment as should be done. This lets me check in nightly, whenever it strikes me to, and do proper diary cards and get reminders to practice my skills. Without the app, I genuinely wouldn’t have made a quarter of the progress I have with my DBT therapy process.

On a more practical note, the UI/UX design is great. It’s accessible, easy to read, pictures are nice, the reminders and dashboard are good, and the color selection differentiates from sections really well. If a dev ever reads this, don’t mess with a good thing, you’ve nailed how the app looks and feels!
