  • My bike was stolen and I was charged $1000

Awhile back I had a citibike stolen from me at the charging station. Immediately after the incident occurred, I called citibike and reported it to them. They informed me I needed to report the incident to the NYPD. It was late, so I couldn’t do it that night, but I was still charged up to $300 for the ride. I reported the theft to the NYPD, who investigated the incident. Citibike informed that, in order to not be charged the $300 for the ride and the $1000 for the lost bike, I needed to provide them with the police report. I sent them the slip provided to me by the NYPD stating I submitted a complaint, and the number of the detective. After several calls with citibike customer service, they still insisted that I needed to submit the official police report. After calling the NYPD, I discovered that the only way to really get the report was through a long process of requests, which would likely still not allow me access to the report as, technically, citibike was the victim since it was their bike. Even still, citibike would not refund me. I ended up successfully disputing the charge through my bank. If citibike is going to release a fleet of very expensive bikes into NYC, they need a better system in the event of theft. I’d rather swim across the east river than use citibike again.

  • Too expensive and app glitchy

The app is so glitchy makes it aggravating to use and why do they keep hiking up prices? It’s basically free advertising. We made “citibike” a verb in common parlance. They should be paying us to use it. And I’m a bike Angel they invited me to a group where they don’t listen to or respond to any questions or concerns. A station was down once and they let it run up like a $50 no docking fee and told me about it like 2 hours after I docked so I had to run to the sock petrified they would charge me $1200 and called and eventually the guy was like oh you’ll be refunded in 3 days.

Citibike you can and should do better

  • Finds any reason to charge you

Constant technical errors at stations. Have been falsely charged twice, each for over $100 for bikes that had been appropriately docked. I even received text notifications for them from CitiBike, but they still proceeded to charge me for their mistake. It required a dozen phone calls to get corrected and even then I was charged a fee that I did not deserve. I enjoy the bikes, and have been a member for years, but the company is absolute trash and these recent issues will get me to cancel my account. Shame on citibike awful behavior.

  • Issues on Issues on Issues

I experienced charges to my card for rides I never authorized twice. Customer service overlooked the problem and instead told me that they’d delay fees until I find a bike that I never used. Twice. Received no reply after explaining for a second time. I settled a balance recently using my venmo debit card, only to be hit with another unsettled balance, despite my card having more than enough funds for rides. I re-entered my card info and it said something went wrong. Because of this I am now running late to work. This was the last straw for this app, I’m done with it.

    Update:
Can y’all please maintain your ebikes better? I find something wrong with them almost every time I use them. I end up having to return them, and I’m still getting charged. If you’re going to charge me for an incompetent bike at least maintain it better. I’m losing money on transportation that’s slower than the bus! For this I may as well go through traffic on a bus.

  • Terrible Customer Service

Citibike charged me over $100 for a 10 minute ride because their bike docks are faulty. I pay for a citibike membership and use the bikes frequently. The other night I rode a bike for ten minutes to the gym (which is free under my current plan) and when I docked the bike, the docks light turned yellow and locked the bike in without ending my ride. Not being able to remove it, I left the bike. Citibike charged me $106 dollars for an over two day ride, which is ridiculous, and customer service has not responded since that night. I would not recommend Citibike to anyone who wants a reliable method of transportation.

  • Bikes no locking properly stealing me 160$

I hear the sound I saw the light when I locked the bike in the station and the next day I receive the notification that they have purchased 160$ of my bike ride when I only used like 15min, this is stupid, I need a refund, you gotta fix the stations or create a better system but this is the 2nd time it happens and it won’t happen again.

    BE CAREFUL

  • Worst Citi Bike customer service in the history

It’s not good company. Customer service is not 24/7 and they tend to response your messages like a day later or longer. They don’t have live chat support at all. If the bike gets stolen that happen to you, they could not do anything about it and keep you waiting and put your account on temporary holding. All bikes should have GPS that help to track it and find it. I don’t know why they called it 24/7 but do nothing at all. Like I said it’s worst company. If you don’t believe in me, please wait till you see it yourself and then you know. 👍

  • Since Lyft took over total failure

The new app design from Lyft made everything worse - it’s really hard to tell where there are available bikes or docks, and it reports docks in locations that don’t exist.
The 3 nearest docks to my apartment in Midtown have been out of commission for over a month. The last few months when I can manage to find a bike in another neighborhood, they’ve been in disrepair, and trying to dock bikes near my destination is impossible because they’re all full. Seems like Lyft bought Citibike just to let it fall apart and drive more car use. No bike maintenance, entire dock sites broken, and no transporting bikes from full docks to empty ones.

  • Tells you to redock on Gov Island during HENRI or be charged $1200

I docked my bike at Governor’s Island on Saturday, only realizing I hadn’t done it correctly once the last ferry back to the island had left from Brooklyn. Bridge Park. That Saturday evening Tropical Storm Henri rolled in and made it impossible and completely unsafe to get to the island to redock the bike for the rest of the weekend. I sent countless messages through the app trying to get support for the situation and didn’t receive any answer until Sunday morning. The answer I did receive was a canned response that barely provided any form of solution, instead urging me to go redock the bike on an island during a hurricane. They offered to send an operation team but gave no details on what that meant and never elaborated even though I asked continuously. Their latest email informed me the bike is now considered missing and that I’ll be charged the $1200. Citibike riders know that these docks are terrible - individual docks tricky to successfully use and oftentimes entire docks out of commission. To have such terrible customer service and such strict policies is ridiculous and to have absolutely no flexibility during a weather emergency is unacceptable.

  • Going downhill!!

I have been a Citi Bike annual member for over 4 years and it has been a huge benefit. Once Lyft took over things have only gone downhill. Some docks never have regular peddle bikes and the cost of E-bikes is EXORBITANT! Also part of why I ride the bikes is for the EXERCISE and I don’t know want ebikes. There are several versions of the actual bike and all of the good ones are getting phased out. I ride with a lot of friends and the increased cost of a single ride for them is UNNECESSARY! They also removed the ability for me to buy a ride for my friend from my app and they removed the ability to buy one time ride at the station. It shouldn’t cost more than a subway ride. It’s all so stupid. The design of the app is also really bad and it’s not clear enough for docking availability. Someone from Citibike or Lyft please call me so that we can have a focus group!!! If there was ANY OTHER competition for bike share in NYC I would abandon Citibike.
