  • Lacks critical functionality for users

    Getting bus schedules - great!
    Recalling your booked tickets - horrible!!

    App makes you re-enter all your information after you create an account and populate all info. No ability to login and see your bookings without re-entering your ticket number from the confirmation email and your email address. Even though you login, nothing is maintained from your account profile linking it to your bookings made under the same login. See ‘VIATOR’ for how this works best.

  • Odd App and odd website

    “Yesterday”
    Information between app and website is not the same for made bookings. Passengers are not shown as in numbers or type of ticket on the same booking with any consistency. The website has very poor functionality and consistency. 5 minutes is NE’s quoted time for adding missing(?) trips to the users account. Transferring ticket to wallet on iPhone does not give seat numbers but does give numbers of travellers on that booking. This does not give me much confidence. We are worried that even with a printed ticket showing reserved seats the boarding will be worrying. Phew!

  • Several Tech Issues

    National express booking on both the App and website have been absolutely poor in the last couple of weeks. It’s become very difficult to book a ticket as always forcing you to restart booking “due to technical difficulties”but takes money sometimes and issues no ticket. Also the app is 2 hours out on the time. It reminds you that you have a coach booked at 1400 hrs when in reality you have booked at 1600! The tickets also expire before you have boarded due to this even when there is no delay! If you have discount codes, it takes away your discount and tells you you have no discount! Terribly disappointed as a very frequent user!

  • NE is fine, this app on iPad and iPhone is terrible

    The app constantly hangs when trying to make a booking and you have to go back to the booking page; when it returns you to the booking screen it holds some of the search values but resets others so you have to reenter; when it does go through it sometimes just sends you to another booking page where you have to reenter the same search/info, again; on iPad at least you can’t enter a departure time value because it won’t allow you to confirm the value selected; and when you do eventually get a booking sorted, it doesn’t make the booking available in the app - you have to go to the confirmation email and search the reservation number to enter manually into the app to have the booking show up. Shambolic. I have some of the the same problems on my iPhone, I don’t have these issues on Windows.

  • Terrible App

    I’ve tried this App in good faith on a good Wifi connection as well as 5G network on 3 occasions over the past week to give it the benefit of the doubt.
    I still have to book my first ticket!
    I know one shouldn’t assume, but based on the many other Travel booking Apps I use regularly, I assumed using the National Express App would be a similar reasonably simple, intuitive process with a slight learning curve resulting in a successful booking.
    I could not have been more wrong!
    I find the App terrible, slow, clunky, counter-intuitive, backward, not even properly formatted for phone screen dimensions (and I have a big screen phone) with some buttons difficult to operate at the very edge of the screen instead of front & center.
    On top of that there is a lot of duplication of information required. No option to register personal, contact and other details i.e. Coach Card details on the App at the start like most similar Apps, saving having to keep entering this over and over. It only asks these details at the Payment stage and trying to register a Coach Card at this late stage proved impossible every time because the Date selector does not work!!!
    Trying to use ‘Back-button’ instantly results in freezing or crashing.
    Chauffeur driven National Express Executives obviously never use this App or try and book tickets on their own Coaches.

  • Wallet timings issue

    The benefit of this app is being able to add your tickets to the apple wallet and access them from the Lock Screen to board. This is quicker and easier than trawling through your email inbox.

    However I have had the same issue a number of times where the departure time shown for my bus is 1 hour out from the real time. This is extremely problematic as it makes the wallet function unreliable and you have to open the app and locate your tickets every time just to check it’s right.

    The coach tracker option has also never worked for me, not sure if it’s only available on select routes but I have travelled to various destinations including major airports LHR+GTW and it hasn’t even been available then.

    Finally there’s a glitch that makes it extremely difficult to buy tickets because every time the options page loads it keeps refreshing in a loop. I have to click an option as fast as I can and then change it afterwards just to stop the constant refresh.

  • Needs updating

    They need to be able to have the ticket you purchase stay in the app!!! Asks to sign in every time you purchase a new ticket.
  • Booking Information

    If you book the wrong date by mistake or need to change your ticket it is impossible to complete on the app. Also, after rebooking your ticket the old ticket information is reflected in the app. In order to see the new reservation you are required to manually enter the reservation number and email address. An alternative is to delete the app and start over to clear the old reservation. National Express needs to fix the glitch.

  • Slow, flawed and bug ridden app

    I’ve tried to use this app for years to book my regular ticket.

    Using a coachcard complicates it - a lot … and you have to enter the details twice (the second time using a date picker that doesn’t really work).

    … then it allows you to check out as a guest (sometimes) or log in - except scrolling often crashes at this stage so actually you can’t.

    Login often doesn’t work. Then it fails to accept payment from whatever source you select and you can gradually work through the list until you can’t achieve any payment method.

    Now, after the next few attempts, you’ve missed the booking window so you can’t buy or get on the bus.

    You can try the ticket machines (Heathrow) but a bug with them means your charged 50% more (+£20 for my ticket today). Or you can have an always nice, polite member of staff book it (unless you’re at the incredibly busy Heathrow - no staff there!)

    Used to be a great operation - coaches are still good if you can manage to buy a ticket and get on one…
