T.E.A.M. CBT approach in AI format!

I have tried the app on a few different occasions and found the empathy given in understanding my negative thoughts to be really very helpful. Creating a CBT therapy tool is incredibly difficult I would imagine. This tool is not perfect, but either are human therapists! In my experience the app really succeeds in supporting individuals with solid empathy. I really feel heard and understood well. No small feat. The summaries of my feelings and emotions facilitate the work in the app—I am able to talk back effectively to the negative thoughts in my head after reading or listening to the AI assistant summarize what I have told it. An interesting and on point sound board if you will! I am a strong believer in CBT therapy; T.E.A.M CBT is a fantastic way to feel better and sort out your negative thoughts and work to address them. I truly admire Dr. David Burns and his colleagues. The app is a worthy accompaniment to Dr. Burns’ podcasts, journal articles, and of course his bestselling books. I wish the programmers continued success with refining and developing this accessible app.

What a thoughtful observation. You're absolutely right that the quality of the process often depends on the willingness to be open and honest about what's really going on. It takes courage to do that work. We're glad the app has been able to accurately reflect your thoughts, feelings, and situations in a way that feels helpful. Hearing this from someone who values CBT and Dr. Burns' approach is especially encouraging. Thank you for sharing your experience and for being part of the Feeling Great community. We'd love to hear more at support@feelinggreat.com -Micheal

Thank you!

I didn’t realize how negative my thoughts were until this app re-stated them and showed them to me. I really like the repetition in the app - using the tools to challenge my thoughts over and over again is teaching me how to challenge my thoughts on my own. Maybe one day it will become automatic! I also really like the summaries of the sessions, so I can quantitatively see how CBT actually IS working - the before and after scoring is very helpful. I also like that the app keeps track of my negative thoughts, so I can revisit them with my therapist and continue to work through them.

Really great

I had depression/anxiety in the past and had gotten over it with the help of Dr Burn’s Feeling Good book. But lately, years later, I had been feeling in a funk again and haven’t been able to get myself out of it like normal. So I decided to try this app out which I had heard about from Dr. Burn’s podcast. It worked amazingly! I finally was able to uncover some deeper negative thoughts and really talk back to them and I feel much much better. I did feel like the app felt a little rigid at times (maybe I’m comparing it too much to Claude and ChatGPT conversations?) and a bit unresponsive to some of the nitty gritty of what I said when it didn’t fall in line with the activity I was doing, but it didn’t matter too much because I kept using it and found the right activities that really clicked for me and helped me figure things out! I do think it helped that I was familiar with a lot of Dr. Burn’s work too.

Response from developer

Returning to Dr. Burns’ methods when an old funk resurfaced shows real self awareness and persistence. We’re thrilled that the app helped you uncover deeper thoughts, find techniques that clicked, and leave the process feeling much better. You’re also right that parts of the experience can feel rigid or less responsive when a comment falls outside the current exercise. We feel motivated by that honest observation and grateful that you stayed curious enough to try other methods. Your balanced feedback helps our team see both what is working and where Feeling Great can become more flexible. Please share any specific examples with us at support@feelinggreat.com -Micheal

Many problems

The problem with this app is that it gets stuck in illogical loops that a human therapist would never get stuck in. The app starts inappropriately repeating things, or often the app hangs on “Thinking about a response” and does not respond even after 20 minutes. It also has a tendency to hang on “network problems” when there is no problem with the connection on my end. And when the app hangs, there is no way to restart at the place you left off. You have to start the whole session over again, which is exasperating and depressing.

Response from developer

Thank you for taking the time to describe your experience in such detail. You’re absolutely right that if the app becomes stuck, repeats itself, or forces you to restart a session after you've invested time and emotional energy, that can be incredibly frustrating. We can see why that would leave you feeling discouraged. We feel concerned reading this because the app should support your progress. The issues you described with prolonged "Thinking about a response" states, network errors, and losing your place are not the experience we want individuals in our community to have. We would really appreciate the opportunity to investigate this further. If you're willing, please contact us at support@feelinggreat.com with details about your device, app version, and when these issues occurred. Your feedback can help us identify and address these problems so we can improve the experience for everyone. -Micheal

Seems far fetched but worth trying

I continue to go through this cycle: Feel bad-> try the Feeling Great App -> find that it works quite well-> feel a lot better for long enough to forget the app exists -> notice that I feel bad -> Feel bad (start over)

I don’t know if you feel bad sometimes, or if the other things you do when you feel bad cause their own problems, or if it would help you, but it helps me, and I hope it works for you too
