Beware! Using this app will likely lead to an increase in your insurance premium
I just finished speaking with a GEICO representative who advised me that my renewal rate was increased and included a “DriveEasy” surcharge of $128 and the loss of a $67 “DriveEasy” discount due the data collected by this app and GEICO’s DriveEasy program.
Basically what this app does is spy on your driving behavior. It collects data which is used to determine your insurance premium according to GEICO’s DriveEasy frequently asked questions on their website. So if you are driving while distracted (using your phone), frequent hard braking, don’t slow down when approaching curves or making left / right turns (cornering) and frequent acceleration then GEICO will use the “DriveEasy” data collected by this spy app to increase your premium.
What makes this so unfair is that only about 10% of the time I was driving the car that GEICO insures in the United States. Most of my driving was done in a foreign country in a car not insured by GEICO. Also I do use Uber a lot and the app cannot distinguish if I am the driver or passenger while it is collecting data.
So it’s quite unfair that I have to pay this $128 surcharge because I was frequently using my phone while using Uber or public transportation…for the driving behavior of an Uber driver and for not being in the United States.

GEICO MILITARY IS GREAT EXCEPT . . . . . . .
My wife total a vehicle 2 years ago ( first incident EVER in 6 years ) my rates double, they worked with us, they got me a new car seat and even tried to sue for my deductible ( I declined because they are good insurance ) I’ve had issues with trying to pay in the past with the app freezing and issues with getting declaration pages. I don’t agree with rates changing with policy changes that are extremely small ( adding towing and road side ) they wanted an extra $9 a month even with me having “Triple A” GEICO all in all are fair, and are a great insurance company but for someone who has been with a carrier for over 6 years SHOULD NOT HAVE RATE INCREASES DUE TO STATE LEGISLATION OR THINGS THAT THE POLICY HOLDER CANT CONTROL. KEEP MY PAYMENTS GOING DOWN EVERY 6 MONTHS WITH NO INCIDENTS, DONT TRY AND RAISE MY RATES THE LONGER IVE BEEN EITB YOU GUYS. ESPECIALLY IF THERE ARENT ANG TICKETS OF ANY KIND AND ARENT ANY ACCIDENTS. I was hoping for a lower deductible soon ( I HAVE GAP ) and you guys only pay what market for the vehicle ( LEARNED WITH TOTALING A 2022 BMW XB7 ALPINA ) so if you guys only give market value for a total and the customer holds GAP also there shouldn’t be a big jump in premium.

They care and saved me money
I am a real person and this is my story. I have had geico for 4-5 years. It’s something you have and hope you will never use. I was a passenger in a car when I got into a horrific car crash. Geico helped me go after the other insurance company and win. They got my medical bills paid and my rehabilitation. It took a year to get back to full health. I Even had enough left over to get another car. When my car catalytic converter got stolen. Insurance covered it. When my car broke down due to overheating. Insurance covered it. They always find ways to save me money and if you call you get a real person. I am thankful for this company. In this economy nobody can beat their prices. You don’t think about it but when I needed them geico was there. They picked up the phone, greeted us and we said we had been in a crash. The first thing they said was let me call an ambulance, where are you and is anybody injured. The level of empathy was incredible. I honestly expected a sales pitch or an upsell, but they came through. They helped us get through a tough time, and I won’t forever be grateful. Thank you Geico for recognizing we are people and we need help.

Unexplained charges
I recently moved at the end of May. Being a good customer and US citizen, I shopped around and found a lower rate with some companies but decided that Geico has been relatively good to me and would be a loyal customer. I updated my address and state insurance with an insurance rep, and my six-month rate went up, which was expected and acceptable. The first payment was 61 dollars more than the monthly charge, according to the rep and simple division (6 months total /6 ). When I asked, the gentleman said that it was a system error and it would fall off. Ok Cool. What wasn't acceptable is I logged in tonight to go over my coverage, and the good old Geico app made me aware that my account was pending cancelation due to $61 not being paid. I went ahead and paid for it. The issue is a reoccurring problem; the reps tell you one thing when it's completely different. I have had a representative on multiple occasions tell me one thing, and something turns out completely different. I am in a position where I can pay a little extra here and there to avoid hours spent on the phone, but if you are a person on a strict budget where every penny counts, I would recommend you either go with someone else or you keep a daily watch on your account

Careless!!!
be careful because initially they will be soft with their rates and everything. I’m very upset with them because I was a customer with them for more then five years or so and the one month a had problem with my bank credit they report me and left me without insurance and I had no Idea!
I was on autopay but someone stole my bank card, so the autopay with them didn’t go through! But the only thing they did was send me an email to notify me who the hecks checks their email constantly and also with all those spam that you get. They didn’t bother to call me to leave me a voicemail or a text or anything!
People have a lot going in their life sometimes but by the time I remembered 10 days had passed, But it is incredible that they can’t forgive you and hear your situation FOR THAT ONE MONTH!!! They just went ahead and cancelled me and report! How dare they how is this caring about your customers. I mean not even one month had passed for them to do such things! It was just this One Time…I was on autopay without missing any payment!
Went I told the guy who answered
He didn’t care he just sounded like a machine telling me what they did and when i told him my situation and told him i want to get back on they double the price almost $300 dollars!!!

DriveEasy
I have always liked Geico, and I never write reviews, but the DriveEasy program is infuriating and Geico should know that. I am a very safe driver on a budget, and insurance rates are crazy high across the board right now, so I signed up for it assuming I would definitely save a lot. And I am saving a little, which is nice, but there is one major annoyance that has to be a scam on their part to collect more money. There are threads on several message boards about it, so I can’t be the only one who is upset by it. Geico: your safest drivers are getting docked points for having “uncontrolled turning” according to your app, and we are trying to fix the problem by driving so slowly as to be encouraging other drivers to speed around us, because even if you take every single curve and turn in a 30mph zone at 7-10 miles per hour, the app still says you are driving like a psychopath. And you are—but not because you’re cornering too fast and without control, rather because you’re trying to convince a broken bot that you’re not doing that. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. Fix your bot and give us our discount.

Review
I have been with Geico for many years. While for the most part they have been good I must say that in the past 3+ years they have not been the same! I don’t know if they have just been hiring the “new entitled generation” with no work ethics or what has changed. I will say that the accident that I had in a parking lot at a 7-11 was or should have been each of us taking care of our own vehicles and based on the conditions and what was said at the time clearly pointed that out. But rather than Geico actually investigating it, they accepted the other persons complete change of story and never looked into it. This never would have happened 3-4 years ago. So I am paying higher rates and no longer have faith in Geico. This could be the case with all insurance companies now. But it is sad that this is now what we are expected to live with!

App Support
I have been using this app for many years now and one of my favorite features was the “Find gas” feature. I am beyond furious that you took this away. I could actually be sitting at a traffic light, open the app and quickly tap on this feature on the app to find gas quickly around me, pull over and get it. Now you took this feature away. I opened the app in the App Store and there is a highlighted blue area to tap on to ask the developer a question, but it just navigates back to the original app page. I want this feature back on my app. I need this to help me. Gas prices are so high and I have to have this help to quickly find affordable gas quickly. Why would you do something like this in these difficult times. I am so angry about this. No one asked me if I wanted to keep this feature or if I mind it being removed. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

Vandalism? Service Guys say”yes.” Insurance?
We’ll see just how “customer-centric” they really are. I’ve had Geico for a long time. Never needed them for anything egregious. Car has been vandalized for about 8 months. Inconvenient seeing cabin strewn with worthless paper and glove compartment contents scattered about the cabin in the morning. Now the engine exploded after being driven from my home for one block. In previous two weeks had little cosmetic things done with the service supervisors saying car is immaculate and car, 2013 CR-V, is in great shape. Of course the “adjuster,” suddenly can’t adjust to the event being continued “over the top” vandalism. Why? Ah-Ha, Cost will be new engine. But with a series of small, acceptable vandalism events, this engine (when torn apart to discern why it finally blew up after being driven one block, Geico adjuster suddenly can’t accept continued vandalism. That would make Geico responsible for the engine replacement. Isn’t that the reason for paying insurance premiums for years? For the “biggie?” Hang on. I’ll let everybody know. Geico may not.

Roadside is a joke
First, not sure where Geico gets their claim of 5/5 stars for roadside service because there is nowhere to leave a review.
I got locked out while scraping snow (for the first time in my life). I had gloves and extra layers… also locked inside the car. I was fortunate to have a warm building to go into. If I hadn’t, I would have gotten hypothermia waiting the 60 minutes for the service they were sending. On top of that, thé phone number provided for the service went straight to voicemail so there was no way to communicate. Called Geico and had a long auto system prior to talking to an agent about the communication problem. I got lucky and someone was able to open the car. I canceled the roadside assistance that was still 30min out. Now that roadside service website asked for a survey, that didn’t have questions consistent with my issue (4 short questions) and at the end it says « we’re working on sending help » with no way to say no. If I get charged for this I’m going to be even more upset. Happy I got lucky, not remotely happy with Geico or the service Road Rangers. Why use a service that’s 60min away in cold weather!!?
