Version History of Asana

10.13.0

September 23, 2024

We’ve long admired those mythical type-A go-getters with the miraculous ability to trundle headlong into new task after new task and just…start. No feet-dragging, no procrasti-cleaning, no bed-rotting (or couch-rotting—we’re not particular)—they just dive right in. As for the rest of us—the procrastinators, the lolly-gaggers, the day-dreamers, and the dilly-dalliers—getting started can take a bit more runway (and a lot more tomfoolery). So if you’re someone who needs a bit more time on the front end to alphabetize your bookshelf first (incredibly time-sensitive, we get it), you can now sort your Asana tasks by start date for a clearer view of everything headed your way.

They say good things come in threes. For example: three-layer dip. (It’s the perfect amount of layers. Five is exorbitant; seven is unholy. Fight us in the comments.) See also: three-day weekends and the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings trilogy (we don’t recognize the Hobbit movies in this household). So in the spirit of threes, we have three Asana updates to share with you: - If you use Asana AI on web to make a project smart summary, you can now see it in your project overview on mobile, too. - Now you can sort tasks by Created on, Created by, and Last modified on. - Multiple task selection and bulk actions (like complete, move, and add to project) have returned to the My tasks page. You can start selecting tasks from the overflow menu or by long pressing on a task.

  • Terrible, don’t expect support.

I used Asana for 4 years, after trying to add a new user to a project I ran into trouble. This should be very straightforward, as Asana is, but it’s clear if you run into an issue you will not get the support you need. There is no 24/7 support, I’d get one question troubleshooting emails in the middle of the night and have to await the next day to get basically nowhere. After almost a week of no suggestions of how to fix this on my end, and also lack of clarity from support who spoke about the domains I have and how I should read the support articles on the website already yet there is nothing that comes up when you put in ‘domain’ on the support search (wtaf.)
I took the problem into my own hands and saw I had duplicate accounts for my personal email and one from my business email. So I deactivated one from my two personal, but guess what that did, it deactivated and deleted ALL of my accounts. This is irreversible, and completely unclear that this would be the case.
Asana doesn’t realize this isn’t for fun, their services are used by lots of small businesses. Years of work and partnerships were deleted instantly. This was user error that made so through bad user experience, avoid this company, there’s so many others to choose from.

  • Frustrated about the interface

This app can definitely be a little confusing when workings with a team. We wasted a lot of time in communications especially because texts/threads can become chaotic and not easy to find. After a while, we ended up using emails again since it is messy on the app. Also it has become messy and unorganized since you can create as many subtasks as you need. I understand the idea sounds terrific but in reality it can create disorganization and you can omit a lot of information when you have so many subtasks there.
And it becomes worst when people isn’t organized (which on our team creates more chaos on top of that). Overall you can tend to spend more time than the time you should spent on the app becoming less efficient. I found other applications more efficient in general.

overall the app works fine with notifications and the desktop app works better than the iPhone one.

  • Love Asana, but not iOS

Are use Asana a lot for work, and overall, it’s been an incredibly valuable tool for myself, and my colleagues to manage a strategic plan, various workflows, ad hoc, teams, and projects that come up throughout the year. But I really find myself avoiding using it on my iPhone because it’s just a really clunky UI.

There’s also a few things that you can do on the computer that are missing on the app which in this decade I feel like it’s really just unacceptable for a Saas product that was developed so recently. For example, you can’t create a new team on the app, only on the computer. I recently had this problem, while on business travel at a conference and identifying something that needed addressing. I wasn’t lugging my laptop around to the conference sessions, but I wanted to start laying out our project. It would be assigned to a new team though, so I can’t do it. I googled and found a post in user community forum from over five years ago of someone asking for this feature, and getting blown off by the support rep. 👎

Also, in addition to having your own dedicated my tasks list, I feel like every new user profile should automatically get as a default, a team consisting of just themselves, for building out richer projects that they aren’t ready to populate into any team yet. Like how you always have your own DM channel with yourself in Slack.
